Performance Trips with The Touring Club

Each year we escort classical music fans to
Wilmington Concert Association's performances.
Here's the schedule for the 2010-11 season.

Madama Butterfly, October 20

This heartbreaking opera, set in the early 1900’s in Nagasaki, Japan, has Lieutenant Pinkerton of the U.S. Navy marrying a naive 15-year old Japanese geisha in a staged wedding ceremony while secretly planning to marry an American woman as soon as he returns to the U.S.  Puccini's classic opera is a universal favorite.  Performed by the internationally acclaimed Teatro Lirico D’Europa.

Midori, November 14

World famous violinist Midori began her career at the age of 11, when Zubin Mehta first heard her play and invited her to be a surprise guest soloist for the New York Philharmonic's traditional New Year’s Eve concert. Since that night Midori has established a record of achievement which sets her apart as a master musician, innovator, and champion of the developmental potential of children. Her violin is the 1734 Guarnerius del Gesu “ex-Huberman,” which is on lifetime loan to her from the Hayashibara Foundation.

Lucia Di Lammermoor, January 19, 2011
Donzetti's 1835 opera of the tragic Lucia, forced into marriage and made to abandon her true love, Edgardo. In its famous third act, Lucia appears in her bloodstained nightgown before the guests who have attended her arranged marriage. This riveting production by
Teatro Lirico D’Europa is marked by fine sets and even, moody lighting. This is a production not to be
missed because of the remarkable singing and a score that is, at times, hypnotic.

(Please note: the date has been changed for this performance.)

Romeo and Juliet, a ballet by Prokofiev, March 29, 2011

This performance by the Russian National Ballet Theatre brings the excitement of world-class ballet to Wilmington.  The music and the choreography combine to make this one of the most famous ballets in the world, and the performance and staging by this company will create an experience to remember.

The Touring Club is arranging four evenings of fine dining and classical performances again this year. We will travel by 55-passenger "limousine" (a.k.a., motorcoach) to Wilmington where we'll dine in a different fine restaurant each trip. So that you may enjoy the dinner and drinks that you prefer, the cost of dinner is not included in our offer. Following dinner, the coach takes us to the door of the performance at Kenan Auditorium on the campus of UNC-Wilmington. The concert hall is a small venue with perfect acoustics --no seat is far from the stage and there are no obstructed views. When the performance is finished, our coach is waiting for us at the door to return us to New Bern.

Each performance trip is $100 per person, which includes transportation and ticket plus on-board refreshments. We recommend you place your order with us soon.  Those ordering season tickets will enjoy the best seating -- a season ticket from The Touring Club is $400.  Call us soon to place your order!
